Follow Berachah day by day
For furher info on the following days, we recommend you to look at te pictures, which speak for themselves. Coming Wednesday DV the group will return to the Netherlands. Day 6 and 7 Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 They went to visit respectively a school for deaf and for blind children. In Burundi when a child is borne with such a handicap it is considered as a curse and these children are kind of outcasts from the society. It is needless to say how gratefull these kids were with the visit of the group and the love that was shared with them. The missionaries were also part of an inaugural program that was organized by the government in cooperation with the Department of Sports. This was held in a large stadium before a huge public. There was also a group from Brazil as part of the festivities and sport program. Berachah members had to wait till everybody was gone out of the stadium before they could leave, because too many in the public wanted to come to them in a large number. Day 5 Sunday July 19 Papie, Rinnah and Berachah visited a church in a city named Kamenga; they ministered some songs and dances and Papie preached about self-esteem. As mentioned before beacause of the war much people especcially parents were killed. That means that the inhabitants are namely between 1 and 20 years. The word pastor Papie spoke was really guided by the Spirit of God and it was thankfully received by all who were present. Afterwards the group was blessed with food and love from the little the visitors themselves had.
Day 4 Saturday July 18 Every single day is a new experience and a new challenge, e.g. how to introduce yourselves to one youngster: not everyone in Burundi speaks English and not every Berachah member speaks French. However the effort is made to communicate in a way that can be understandable. One way of doing this is by showing patience and love and to do not give up. There is no doubt that it is the Lord who is showing His grace and thus allowing every Berachah member to grow spiritually and socially. They went to give and while giving they are receiving too. Everyone is in good health and eventhough like said before, much poverty and simplicity are seen, they all agree in that, this experience is a beautiful one granted by the Lord. While one is struggling with the food, the other is going through changes not having the comfort used to. Let's keep in prayers for them. The names of those travelled to Burundi are:
Day 3 Friday July 17 It seems like the mission is really starting to get alive for the group. More and more they get involved with the inhabitants, their way of life and most of all the simplicity of their living. It is astonishing and at the same time a very big blessing to see how a mother and her family can dance with all her heart because of her son getting a cap. A simple cap with not a real mark of any kind, but a cap that was donated as a gimmick. It's a different way of looking at life, from a different window: it is still possible to be happy with just a little. God is definitely putting something new in the hearts of each groupmember.
Day 2 Thursday July 16 We talked to the group leader Rinnah and she reported to us that the whole group is in good health. On Thursday they had a intercultural exchange in a village in the mountains near to the city of Bujumbura. In the beginning the inhabitants, mostly youngsters were a little shy however as the group was performing more of them came by and joined the crowd. Something that is remarkable is the fact that many of the youngsters at an early age of 12 or 13 already have children. The Berachah brethren had lunch with these people in the village; it was good fresh food, vegetables and fruits taken at that moment from the trees. They were served a sweet chicken platter. The houses in the village are made of clay and much poverty can be seen around. The place where the group is staying was formerly a centre where swedish missionaires used to stay in former days. It is located near to the lake of Afterwards Berachah returned back to their guesthouse where they worshiped the Lord together with thanksgiving.
Follow Berachah day by day Every day we will try to give you a review of all the activities of Berachah...so stay posted. Today 15 th of July the group arrived in Bujumbura.
The place where they are staying is good and the food is delicious and healthy. Today they will rest in order for them to start tomorrow with the programme. The time in Burundi is the same as in the Netherlands. In Burundi everybody speaks French and some people speak also English. The currency they use is the BIF, Burundi Franc. This is it for today...reporting from Burundi. And yes, a big challenge! While they were in Nairobi early in the morning of Wednesday they called and so far all are in good health and praising the Lord. Once they all arrive in Bujumbura, Burundi more information and pictures will be seen on this site. Keep following Berachah and let's rejoice together in the Lord and do not cease in praying for each one of them and thank the Lord for their health in spirit, soul and body.
A new challenge, Burundi! Two years ago the first invitation was extended, however not yet accepted. Our hosts in Burundi are excited to receive Reverend Welton ’Papie’ and Rinnah Esprit together with the gospel orchestra and theatre group Berachah in Burundi. This time the invitation has been accepted and preparation to be in good shape and sound in spirit, soul and body have started. The group consisting of 45 persons will initiate the mission called ’No limit’ on July 2nd 2009 when they will arrive at Schiphol Airport from Curacao.
On July 14th they will travel to Bujumbura with a smaller party consisting of 24 persons; some men and women who come from Curacao and others who live in Holland who will join them as well. As requested they will take part in various Cultural Exchange programs in music and drama in institutions and outdoor and also sports; community service will be part of the program too.
To make this mission possible different activities are organized in order to raise funds to equip the group with everything necessary to realize this challenge.
On Curacao a 'koreton*' (see pictures) was organized, also a musical, some concerts and other activities.
In the Netherlands the participants are also working hard. Photo shoots, sale of sweet typical Antillean delicacies e.g.'stoba buffet', pastries and so on, an activity called Lounge & Love are some events held that can be mentioned. * a ‘koreton’ is a race where depending on how many laps you run, you will receive an amount of money agreed beforehand.
